Add 5 to the Fish List
Nick was able to add 5 new species to the list of fish that he's caught.
(I think he said he had 216... plus the 5 new ones)
Amatitlania_nigrofasciata (Convict_Cichlid)
Amphilophus_labiatus (Red_Devil)
Cichla_ocellaris (Butterfly_Peacock)
Hemichromis_elongatus (Banded_Jewel_Cichlid)
Strongylura_strongulura (Spottail_Needlefish)
(I'm not positive about the needle fish... if anyone has any
ideas about exactly which one it is, please let me know)
I figured the easy ones to catch would be the peacock bass and
the 5-bar general... turns out they were the most difficult.
We looked all day for the peacock bass and finally found them
around 1:45 pm, But then we located them on that point and
Nick landed 26 in the next hour and a half. Just as fast as the
live bait hit the water, he had a fish on. As boats passed by,
we called them over to join in on the fun
The day started out with me wondering if we were going to meet
our goal of 5 new species... But it turned out great....
With everyone catching fish...
"Why let the truth stand in the way of a good fish story?"
Re: Add 5 to the Fish List
Freshwater garfish (Xenentodon cancila)...common name according to FishBase. I think I said Asian needlefish in our email...which the common name was based off USGS...either way...the genus and species is correct (that's why I always list my fish with genus and species because local names could be different...but scientific taxonomy will always be correct )
Way to guide a species hunter to 5 species. Next time I'm going to be looking to catch the needlefish. What did Nick use to catch the needlefish?
Caution - Objects in picture are smaller than they appear.
I am genetically predisposed to make fish look bigger than they really are.
