Some 34 or 35 years ago I use to bring my nephew, Mitchel, to Lake Wilson.
We fished for talipia by the sewage outfall from a little 12 foot wooden boat.
That's when thousands of big talipis gathered around that waterfall there by Boy Scout Island.
Mitchel was 6 or 7 years old at the time and is still an avid angler to this day.
Saturday morning I had the pleasure of taking his 6 year old son,
Ivan, for his first fishing trip to Lake Wilson. Ivan already
goes saltwater fishing on the reefs and shorelines with his
dad, but this was his first freshwater outing.
As with most kids who have only fished saltwater...
it took Ivan a while to realize that accurate casting is
more important in freshwater than how far you can cast.
He looped a few casts over the top of the highline
wires that cross above the lake. And several "Monkey Fish"
reached out from trees to steel his lures.
(but even experienced anglers run into "Monkey Fish" from time to time)
