My First Smallmouth Bass!

I don't think I've ever been so proud of such a small fish! The water was "fairly" clear at the rapids yesterday so I figured I'd try for a smallie today. Got there and today's rains had the water pretty stained. I already had a 3" grub on a small jig so I was set. I got a few nibbles. I pulled up a 4 or 5" SMB to the surface. He was hanging on to the tip of the tail and let go when he surfaced. I finally got my first smallie a few casts later. As most of you know, the SMB is the most elusive fish of the almightly coveted Lake Wilson Triple Crown. It was too late to try for the other two. One day I'll earn it!

I know exactly how you feel ! I only have one smallmouth to my credit, but it was the middle fish of my triple crown. Good job ! Now you just need to catch one on the right day !

That's a pretty one... way to go.
(probably would have caught more if you weren't using that ugly swivel)

I knew you'd think that was a cheap swivel. Its actually a piece of driftwood in the background that just looks like a cheap swivel!

Congrats!!!!! Fishing for smallies is better on the mainland in the Northeast so if your ever up there you should definitely try it.
