After believing Stan that there were schools of Tucs busting, I decided to cash in on the action. Unfortunately, the fish gods were not cooperating! No busting Tucs around BSA Is. or in any of the usual places. Yea, there was a single here and there, but no schooling action. I picked up a 3/4 pound Tuc on the bubble rig near BSA Is., weathered the rain a bit, then picked up a sickly looking 1 1/2 LMB along Kincaid's on a spinner bait. Since I had only caught two fish the whole day, and they were 2 of the 3 I need for a Lake Wilson Triple Crown, I decided to try for a smallie in smallmouth country. Going up I tried a chartruese and a white inline spinner, then changed to a worm coming down. Nothing. Tried some Texas rigged worms on the saddles and points. We were slowly making our way back to the ramp when "Holy H()!!". Right on the north side of Paperbark, a big bust! A 2008 style big bust, about 100 yards out of casting range. I started heading there wide open throttle on the trolling motor! I figured it would be over by the time I got w/i range but the bust lasted for almost a full minute! My nephew and I launched the Kastmasters and both instantly hooked up a double! 8) There were a couple of other smaller bust out of range. That was it. Not a great day, but at least we didn't get skunked.

got an early start, my son woke me up at 5 to make sure we wouldnt miss the fishing. had high hopes after also reading stans posts the night before. again no busts no fish to be found and tried all the usual spots, nothing in the grass or on points or wood cover. luckily got a small lmb on a crankbait so at least my son didnt get skunked. by lunch he was done it was a very slooooooooooowwwww morning, back to the ramp for a handoff to the wife and back out to try some more stuff. knew i was in trouble as all the other boats were heading in with similar stories of hard luck.swung for the fence for several hours and threw a large soft plastic swimbait, stayed true to it for 3 hours and finally gave up after trying it at all depths and all types of cover. as i was headed in decided to thow a crankbait again and then the switch flipped!! by shear luck i caught 4 lmb from 1-2lbs on 4 consecuative casts, the wind was blowing so hard no cast was in the same area or same cover. the lightbulb went on!after several weekends of searching i had finally found the bass(the tucs are everywhere just uncooperative) they were suspended in 10-12ft of water in 20-24ft of water, not relating to cover in anyway.tried several lures and the crankbait seemed to really fire them up, they took it so deep at times only the line was sticking out of thier mouths.it was really tuff to get um unbuttoned with that rear treble in or near the gullet and the front one in the tongue or jaw!!long needlenose pliers a must! tried several parts of the lake on the way back in and it seemed to work everywhere i stopped a caught a few. caught several 2lb and maybe 8 1lb bass with a really hefty 3lb 4 oz to anchor my day. sat the boat in 20-24ft of water and threw a crankbait that went 10-12ft max , in a shad color seeing as the water wasnt so bad for stain maybe 2ft visibility.hope this helps the other weekend warriors for the rest of the holiday, just remember for a few the reason we have the holiday while your enjoying the the little things they never got to.

Wow, when I started reading these two reports I was thinking... OH NO!
Glad it turned around and you guys did good.

Perhaps when reading any of my reports in the future, you should remember the words of my old Grand Pa... as Grand Pa use to say, he'd say: "Son, don't believe nuthin you read and only half of what you see."

theres a saying that follows every story of epic surf,, " shoulda been here yesterday" think any sport in nature is subject to her whims.
