I got a late start on New Year's Eve fishing but did get in a couple of hours. I wanted to catch a nice peacock bass as my last fish of 2010 but it just wasn't in the cards. I ended up catching three LMB and cut it close to sun down. After playing with plastics for a while, I started targeting the peacocks with my favorite torpedo. Right away I got a hit but missed it. As it started getting later, I went to Tuc Bay and grabbed my LMB "Go To" lure,a Rapala X Rap. I got a solid strike and down went the lure! As the mightly LMB came up and jumped, he gave it his all and was able to sling the trusty Rapala out of its mouth. After a couple of four letter words, I cast right back in the same spot and bingo. Another hit. This one was solid as 4 of the 6 hooks were dug in! As you can see, it was your average dink.
Back to BSA Is. looking for some peacocks. There were some rare, sporatic buts happening. Tried the Torpedo some more then went to the "tried and true" bubble rig. After dozens of cast I finally hooked up, but no peacocks. I landed two more LMG and lost about 3.
I did see some HUGE Tucs cruising right by me. Not interested in my Torpedo though. I would not be surprised at all it someone breaks the Peacock Bass State Record in 2011 ! THere are some nice lunkers floating around as some of you can attest to.
Not a terrible way to end 2010.
