I met Ryan two years ago in Alaska. He works in
commercial fishing there summers...
and does a lot of sport fishing when not working fishing.
He also fishes bass tournaments in his home state of Oregon.

I told him if he ever got to Hawaii, I'd take him
peacock bass fishing. So here we are on a beautiful
sunny day at the lake. With water so glassy it was
easy to spot schooling largemouth.

The only lure we caught the schooling bass on... a BassAssassin.


And catching.....


And Catching..... He must have had over a dozen.


But not catching peacock bass. We saw so many peacock bass.
Big ones in the 4 to 7 pound range. There must have been 25 or 30
hanging around this one log. Nothing we threw at them worked.
We were still catching largemouth, but the peacocks just shied
away from our every lure.

At 2:00 PM we headed over to Kemoo Farm for a quick
lunch and ran into Pegasus. They had 4 fish in the over 3 pound size.
Live Bait. He offered us a few baby tilapia and pointed toward a
log holding dozens of large peacock bass.
A few minutes later he showed us this....

Live bait turned out to be the key
that unlocked the lockjaw.

Speaking of rain... Time to go, the bilge pump was working overtime.
And then..... the boat wouldn't start. Thank you again Pegasus for
towing us back to the ramp.... (found out why it wouldn't start....
seems the Kill Switch got knocked into the OFF position some
time during all the excitement of netting Ryan's fish)

Any luck with the 2" senkos?

Two largemouth bass on the Senko... the BassAssassin is heavier and I could cast way out to where the fish were splashing. It's action was also more to the fishes liking... and Ryan was catching about 5 to my one.... so I retired the Senkos and started catching with the BassAssissin.

Thanks for the picture. Luke says it looks like we are fishing in a snow storm. And you had told me earlier that it was a sunny day. Glad that I could help Ryan get a tuc. I know it made his day ! Sure glad we made that stop on the way in ! Only crazy fishermen were out at that point !

Yea, Ryan was stoked about that peacock bass.... we couldn't have done it without you.
You know, come to think of it, it was really sunny and hot.... till we saw you guys.
