Fishing Merit Badge

This morning we hit the lake to finish up the last requirements for Boy Scout, Fishing Merit Badge.
Noah struck first with this largemouth bass. He was using a 2" Senko on a 4# test spinning outfit.
Within a few minutes, Ryan tied the score with his own largemouth. The little white Senko was drawing some mean strikes.
A little while later, Noah connected again. Several more bass followed the hooked fish out toward the boat. Ryan flipped his lure into the mix and got an instant hook up... Double.
Clay, from Nervous Water fly shop joined me on the boat to start the boys on their Fly Fishing Merit Badge. After a few minutes of "casting practice" with the long wand, I eased the boat over to where Chris had spotted two schooling peacock bass the day before.
Since Ryan had already landed a peacock bass on another trip, he let Noah have the first shot... Hook up. This was not only Noah's first fish on a fly rod, it was his first peacock bass. After a 10 minute battle, and several spectacular jumps, Ryan slipped the net under his friend Noah's fish. A 3 1/2 pounder. That's what I call teamwork. and a good start toward their Fly Fishing MB. I can't wait to take them out again so Ryan & Noah can enjoy the thrill of catching a fish on a fly that he tied himself.
