Clean Sweep

In saltwater fishing, a clean sweep is when you catch each of the 4 flag fish in one day. Marlin, Tuna, Mahimahi, and Wahoo.

I've heard that a Lake Wilson Clean Sweep is when you catch
a peacock bass, a largemouth bass, and a red devil in one day.

Well, last Sunday, John caught largemouth, smallmouth, peacock bass, red devil, and bluegill.

I figured catching all 3 kinds of bass in one day was pretty special.

He caught all his fish with a flyrod.
Yes Virginia, there are smallmouth bass in the lake.

I think Stan told me it was caught up the north fork.

We went all the way up the north fork as far as we could go... which is not nearly as far as when the lake is full. :(
John had already caught a peacock and a largemouth, so we decided to try for the smallmouth.

We got as far as possable. There were large bolders, but the water was clear. He caught it on the first cast with a popping bug.

Years ago.....
When the water was at full level, I could go around the end of the tressel on the south fork and then way up stream. As soon as the water cleared up we would start fishing... we got smallmouth up to 2 pounds.
Someone said the water level now is just right to get past the tressel.
We would go as far as we could with the boat and then start waiding.

back in the day, not too long ago maybe mid 90s. we used to catch 2 smallies once in awhile in the main lake, never like tucs or largemouth but man they fought hard! and jumped like crazy! my first time with a boat on the lake my friend caught a 2-3 lb smallmouth on a popper right around the corner from the boat ramp. back when we paddled everywhere hahahaa
