The fish were really biting today. Peacock Bass, Largemouth Bass,
Bluegills, Red Devils.
We caught so many fish. What they lacked in size,
they more than made up in big numbers.
Especially the largemouth.... we must have caught 15 or more.
They had a great spawn this year. (I also heard the kids over at the
school released several thousand bass this year.)
The action was in the grass. Any tiny fly or lure seemed to work.
Move it slow and the bluegill and red devils sucked it in.
Move it fast and the peacock and largemouth bass attacked.
Except for the little popping bugs. The bass and bluegills
would smack it even if it was sitting still.
I should have kept count of all the bluegill we caught.
(way more than 30) But we didn't, so no new record.
We were having so much fun with the fly rods I hardly used the
ultra-light lures and the spinning rods. Love that little Beetle Spin.
Every fish we caught was under 4 to 6 inches long. Just goes
to show..... you don't have to catch big fish to have fun.
