5 July Fishing Tail

Lots of people on the water this weekend. Boat ramp was working fine. I don't remember seeing so many boats, even during an HFFA Bass tournament. Some working hard for their fish......
Image

Others, taking a more relaxing approach to their fishing.
Image

Everyone I spoke with was catching fish, Boaters and shore fishermen alike. Live tilapia or goldfish seemed to be the bait of choice.
Image

Clay and I explored the lake looking at all our favorite fishing spots... Now all "high and dry". It was easy to see why we had taken so many fish in these locations. Structure.... fallen tree tops, log jams, rock piles, submerged points of land, and piles of grocery carts.
Image

(I wonder if the guy who owned this wheel chair was in it at the time it was tossed off the bridge?) Where there is structure... you'll find the fish.
Image

We only fished for a few hours. Where we found the red devils, the peacock bass were not far away. (could they like to eat peacock bass eggs?)
Image

The RD were spooky and shy... except for this one who took this floating popper. I've never seen a RD take a surface lure before.
Image

They mostly like small minnow type lures or wet flys.... well, anything under the water... and moving...... s-l-o-w-l-y.
Image

Peacock bass like anything that looks or acts like a small fish.

I'm really surprised we didn't see that much schooling action..... the shad schools were every where... showing up as black clouds on the fish finder.

And that, Boys & Girls, is a July 5th......... "Fishing Tail"

That seems to be a reoccurring theme, nothing biting one day then everything biting the next!

Paddled from the ramp to Morgans point and back. Picked up 8 tucs . Actually caught one on an artificial lure. Even got another tagged fish. The rest I got on tilapia working the shoreline and trees. One heck of a workout going back to the ramp against the wind. Next time I take the boat... low water or not.
