Tenkara out fishes western style fly rod again.

:D

For you non-fly fishermen, it's a running joke about the
"controversy" between which is better, or more true to fly
fishing purity, or some such silly stuff.

Since the peacock bass fishing is slow due to rain and
cold water temperatures, Albert and I decided to try K-Bay
for barracuda with our Tenkara rods.

It's been over 5 or 6 years since I pounded the edges of the reefs
and mangrove shorelines for cuda. For almost 4 hours we visited
the hot spots of old... and nada, zip, zero. I have no idea what
happened to all the barracuda I use to catch in those "secrte spots".
We never hooked, spooked, got chased by, or even saw a barracuda.
It's like they just vanished.

Do you think the weather might have had something to do
with it? Falling tide. The wind was out of the North a 25 to 30...
with driving rain. Casting was easy... just hold your rod
straight up and let the wind take it.

Albert use his 6wt Western styli and one of my 13.6" Amago.
The only action came on the Tenkara rods from the aggressive
lizard fish.... of which Albert landed several.

Just another beautiful sunny Hawaiian day.

They may not be large fish, but Albert and I sure had fun
catching them anyway. I just hope he can visit again when
the fishing is better.

Spoke with Ernie T... founding member of Ultra Light Hawaii... he figured with all the rain there is lots of freshwater close to shore driving the cuda out to deeper waters. He also said that this is not barracuda season... Summer is best. Said we should have gone after Oio (bone fish) now.

This is Albert with his Oio from Wednesday.
