For Luke's b-day, he got a little ultra lite set up. We loaded it up with 6lb test and went out to test it out. His friend Jameson was along for the fun. The only thing better than fishing with an 11 year old is fishing with two 11 year olds ! ( just kidding ). We got to the Lake just as Stan was coming back to the ramp. Said hello and off we went. The late afternoon conditions were perfect. We were going to hit BBP for hopefully some non-stop action. As we headed out, I decided to stop and work the trees for a while. I told Luke to be careful where he cast, because chances he would get broken off in the trees is much higher when you are throwing 6lb test. Sure enough, he hooked up a nice fish and it immediately wrapped up in a branch. I told him to relax the pressure and I moved the bow of the boat around with the trolling motor. Next thing we know, it comes loose and heads out to the deeper water. Luke worked it like a pro ! ( as a matter of fact, he thinks he is a pro ). This monster was pulling the boat as it headed to the deeper water. After a few strong runs, he was in the net ! A new personal record !
Luke joins the 5 pound club ! Check out the new rod and reel.
Before I can put the net away, Jameson hooks up with a nice fish. He pullled in this nice three pounder. His personal best!
Just as I put a fresh bait on my line, Luke hooks up again. ( this guide thing is a lot of work ! Here we go again. Get the net ! Get the boga grip scale. Get the camera. Get another bait... and then try and get your own bait in the water before one of these little guys hooks up again. Luke's next fish was a nice 4 1/4 lb tuc.
As you can guess, we never made it to BBP. The action in the trees was too much fun for these guys to leave. I guess a 5 pounder will do that.
For a short trip, we caught some quality fish. And on the way home, Jameson said it was one of the best days of his life ! That alone makes it worth all the trouble. And it reminded me of just how lucky we are to be able to go to the lake and enjoy the action. Lucky you live Hawaii !
How to break-in your new b-day present !

So where did you get that new rod & reel and how much did it cost? Nevermind the cost, where did you get that combo from? Thats quite the lunker killer right there! Tell Luke congratulations on joining the lunker club. I'm sure you're very proud!
Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. ~ Henry David Thoreau
