Wassup everybody, i'm new to the forum. Grew up here on Oahu fishing, but only recently discovered how fun the freshwater fishing is. Bought a kayak a few months ago and take it out on wilson once in a while, however if anyone ever needs another buddy on da boat lmk, i'll pay for gas, bring lunch, haha cause paddling from the boat ramp to the dam is not always happening and paddling to the north fork is not even a question....

Jus wanted to share me and cheesefish smallie hunt on fri 7/8. We went for just a couple hours in the afternoon. Da samllies were aggressive wacking poppers and spinners... after the action on the lures died down we caught some molly's.... dem smallies cant say no to um... we ended up catching 20+ one after another... about 6 in the 1-2lb range and 1 MONSTER possibly a state record.

Where was this at? Looks like Manoa area. Looks like that was very close to the State record, which is 4.98 lbs. for a smallie. Congrats on a great day fishing!

OMG, that is a monster! Looks about as big or bigger than the one the other young man (Marcus?) caught at Hoomaluhia. Hard to say, but either way that is one impressive catch. Catching one that big in a stream is like catching a 10 lb. tuc in the lake. Freak of nature because size is usually somewhat dependent on the size of the body of water. Congratulations! Next time bring a scale and tape measure. I'm not sure if Hawaii requires the fishes' physical body (killing the fish) to submit for a state record. Someone smart will hopefully clarify.

Not smart but from what I've read on the Hawaii Fishing News website, the fish needs to be weighed on a certifiable scale and a pic documenting its length. The nearest certifiable scale near Lake Wilson would be at Tamuras or Foodland. Some Boga grips can be certified as well. I'd hate to see someone kill a trophy fish just to submit it for a record.

Just a guess, but I think you're the unofficial state record holder! Bring certified boga grip and go back. It can be done!
