The DLNR boating division...I think the address is 300 queen st not a 100% its 300 though. Just google it. Its on the 3rd or 4th floor in the corner building. Not too hard to find but parking can be. Oh another thing...its accross the street from the post office you can pay and park behind there as well and its only a short walk.

You can find most of the boating information you need at this site.

There are some sample registration forms so you can see what information you need to have. You will still have to fill out the form at the DOBOR office. Renewals can be done on-line.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner but I was next to Chris catching those schooling tucs today.

do kayaks without a motor need to be registered?

I don't think so. I believe it has to be powered. I'm not the expert here though.

Kayaks do not need to be registered if its paddle powered. If you add a motor, even just a trolling motor, they are then required to be registered.

I tried re-newing my registration online once and for some reason it didn't process. Fortunately it didn't charge me, since then I just go to the office directly....good excuse to leave work a little early on a non-furlough Friday.

No need register non powered kayaks. I try to avoid the den of thieves aka DLNR Boating office in Honolulu as much as possible. The parking is terrible and expensive ($3.00 for 30 minutes) to unless you can find street parking the meters running 25 cents for every 10 minutes.
I worked for them for 14 years until the new "head" clueless moron Ed Underhand started running the circus. :roll:
