saturday report
calm before the storm? dunno but the fish sure thought so! started out early and right off the bat was getting my spinnerbait bumped and flashed at on every other cast. switched to a 1/4 ounce from a 1/2 but still couldnt hook up. then down around boyscout island there were lots of little sucks and pops everywhere as the little largemouth attacked shad balls. nothing big maybe the size of a basketball, and i wouldnt even call it busting it lasted less than a second each time but was constant and everywhere! threw many top waters, little rebel popper and a zara puppy produced the most hits, alot of hits but only a few hook ups.bass maybe 10in or so just under a lb. just throw out and work anywhere! they all seemed suspended out in the middle but everywhere. got tired of "walking the dog" and went to chase larger fish.started with cranks and spinnerbaits again and caught many more 10-12in bass, even upsizing lures didnt deter them, some hit so hard they seemed like much larger fish! i had one little guy nearly pull my rod outa my hand he hit my spinnerbait on the fall so hard! fished deep with plastic and pitched shallow wood and weeds, points, bluffs. they were everywhere very spread out one here one there, never a second fish fronm the same structure no matter how much i tried. saw many tucs along the trees but none would do more than give me a sour look and move away. and none chasing shad. water temp was 70 at the start and at noone was 72.all in all it was a very good day and had the lake nearly to myself, saw chris and one kayak that was supposedly in some mwr tournament and that was it. lost track of the fish maybe caught between 20-30 less than1lb and a few around 1lb, a few kickers just over 2lbs and all seemed healthy and around 10-14in. i think anyone with some patience and the right lure could spend all day around boyscout island and never move, they were still there poppin and slurpin as i left at 330. hope the storm dosent ruin it for next weekend!

Sounds like you had a blast! Nice report. I remember someone on another forum saying that the zara puppy was discontinued, so I hurried and ordered about 8 or so. Then the next day he posts that he was misinformed. Dooh! (Homer Simpson) I love that lure, except for the older ones with the poorly designed hook hangers that allowed for hardly any hook pivoting, thus plenty of lost fish. Spinnerbaits: I remember being at McCully Sporting Goods when some guy was asking if they had spinnnerbaits and the guy had to ask his 2 co-workers and none of them had a clue. Understandable since we're in Hawaii, but still funny. Maybe I'll ask someone at Bass Pro Shops if they have slide baiting supplies.
