Tenkara Rods are Amazing

Postby Stan Wright » Fri Aug 20, 2010 10:54 pm

Now this is what I was looking for... something to test out my new Tenkara, Amago.
My first fish on my new rod. A red devil. Boy did he make that line sing.

The trade winds were blowing 10 to 20 so I went with the # 4.5 (16 foot) and a 4# test leader... (3 or 4 foot) The advice about using a leader less than 5# test so you wouldn't break the rod worked like a charm. This size little peacock bass was what I was looking for...

But when one about 4 pounds grabbed the fly before I could jerk it away... the leader poped as advertised. Very exciting. Rod in top shape.

A little while later, I wasn't paying attention and this 2 1/2 pounder nailed my fly. I kept the rod at a high angle and Steve hit the electric trowling motor. Ten minutes later Steve slipped the net under the fish.

We still can't believe we landed a 2 1/2 pound peacock bass on a Tenkara rod with a 4# test leader.

These Tenkara rods are so much fun... I am hooked.
