Hit the lake Sat. afternoon to throw a few lures. Had one setup with a clear floater with one of Stan's favorite flys. A small bluegill hit it near the grass. I was just about to throw it back when I remembered that the new world record largemouth was caught in Japan using a bluegill as bait. So in my live well it went... all alone. Later , after lots of casting practice with no fish, I hooked my new friend up through the lips and sent him overboard. Shortly after this, I spotted the first fish of the day near the shore. I cast my bluegill near him ... and bam ! He weighed in at almost 5 lbs. My best tuc of 2010. Fisherdude came along just as I got him aboard. That was it for the day. Good fun !
First... a bluegill

It was pretty small. Maybe 3 to 31/2 inches long. Same size as some of the tilapia I throw, but a tastier treat for the tucs. Glad I didnt throw it back. It hit that little white fly with the red flash with the hook that rides up so it doesnt get snagged as much. That was my first fish on the bubble and fly rig. Hard to control it with the long leader.
