Stupid Fish!

Postby Stan Wright » Tue Oct 06, 2009 8:18 am

For over 2 1/2 years I kept records of every fish I caught. I was trying to figure out a "pattern", Why and when do they act the way they do?
Water temp
Wind speed and direction.
Water clarity
Moon Phase
Barometer
Humidity,
Cloud or sunny
location
lures,
etc, etc, etc
I even put in the tide change times......

And the only thing that I found that made any difference in the peacock bass fishing was:

1. If the water temperature was below 74 degrees, the fish seemed to stop almost all activity. (they don't like cold water)

2. If there is a rapid rise in the water level, the fishing action really slows down for a few days until the water level stabilizes.

SO.... why was it that yesterday (Monday) The water level rose almost one foot between 1:00 and 5:00 PM ( it had risen 7 feet over night)
WHY ? Why were the peacock bass busting and feeding like crazy?
AND... Why were they also eating live bait on the points like it was free candy?

Stupid Fish.... there is no rhyme or reason to the way they act.

I would tend to agree with all the data you collected. After seeing the water rise so drastic, I thought for sure it would stun the fish for a few days. Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmm". :?

Checked the weather service site for the water level at the spill way and it shows a little over 70 feet. First time in months that it has been anything but a flat line at 68.5 ft. ... question....How can a guy catch twenty something fish and not see any ??? I have to look at them to get the hooks out !

All those stupid fish were acting crazy around Blue Boat Pt. all morning...
:D :D :D
AND....
Another bunch was acting crazy around Mikimiki Flats... all morning
:D :D :D
AND....
Another bunch was acting crazy around Kunia Pt... all morning.
:D :D :D

So that's 25 or 30 fish each from each place. Two boats were using live bait and the guy near Kunia Pt. was fly fishing. Most of the Peacock bass were between 2 1/4 to 2 3/4 pounds... then there were largemouth, red devils, catfish and bluegill.
(none of us made it past BBPt.... so I don't know about the N. Fork.)

I'mgeting to old for all that action....
