This afternoon I took Ken out for a final trek into my secret private fishing water before his return east on Monday. We got on our way around 3:30 pm and this time concentrated our efforts on the Kaku using topwater lures. Long story short we fished an hour less than last time, had less strikes overall but more solid hook-ups so caught a few more fish. It was a nice way to end Kens brief trip to Hawaii. Ken was a real sport, if a Kaku hit but missed his lure I'd tell Ken I'm stealing his fish and cast in the same spot and hook the Kaku that just missed his lure. We started tag teaming the Kaku this way which was fun. Ken it was an honor to meet, get to know, and especially fish with you. Hopefully I'll have the 'Awa figured out before your next rip here. Best wishes on your future endeavors. Have a safe journey back.
Pictures posted in the order Kaku were caught. All Kaku C&R'd to fight another day.

Mahalo again to Ji who was such a great guide. It was an absolute blast to fish with Ji and just talk story. Ji wasn't joking when he said we were tag teaming the kaku. There were a handful of times when the kaku hit another lure that was in the vicinity of the one it just missed. There were quite a few acrobatic kaku today...some of them coming right out of the water like missles ;D A couple of them were so hungry that the whole lure was swallowed. ;D
Anytime you fish topwater and get on a consistent bite like that, it is an absolute blast. ;D
Ji, don't be a stranger. I'll be waiting for that call to let me know you're in Toronto. We'll go hunt for some freshwater kaku...aka muskies. I know a river that has choke juvi muskies. They really like hot summer days...but fall days are even better when they put on the feedbag Plus we'll go find some walleye for that shore lunch Stan, you too
Evan, go fish this place quick before you get back to Kauai. You may want to stay on Oahu a little longer ;D I didn't get any on the fly rod...couple of close ones with the fish blowing up on the fly and missed...but no hook ups. Go get one on the fly rod
