I was out testing a new fly rod and new flys this afternoon.
Saw some schooling peacock bass. About one pound size. The shad were scattered and so were the schooling fish..... They were not on the surface but a few seconds.
Worked the shore line and saw a few fish. Got a few chases, but no real aggressive fish. The guy fishing off Blue Boat Point was catching using a Glitter Strip Rig. (Spinning rod, weight, 4 foot leader and small fly) Said he was using a bubble float, but didn't catch anything on that... had to go deeper. I watched him catch several nice fish in just a few minutes. He said another guy, earlier, was really catching them using live bait. He was going to Morgans Pt, but got side tracked with all the action at Blue Boat.
I did have lots of fun with the Red Devils. Caught a bunch of them. Good fun on a light fly rod.
The water clarity was maybe 2 feet..... not that clear. The water was GREEN. Lots of algae, I guess. The water level is down to 74 feet. That's 6 feet below the spillway. The water temperature was 81 to 82 degrees.
Looks like you had to go deep or use live bait to catch peacock bass today

You can use a plastic bubble , swivel, and leader.... that is great for the lake. Just add water to change the weight of the bubble.
For going deeper I use the 1/4 oz. football weights. Let it slide along the main line above the swivel.
Works great with my noodle rod.
I figure any small fly will work. I've been using a #10 AH hook.
Gold or silver Flash-a-boo. There are lots of other colors of stuff to use. I get mine at Nervous Water Fly Shop in Honolulu.

Ah, the classic Papio whipping rigs work for Tucs too eh? The lightest flyrod I have is a 5 weight and I figure I can get a better fight using my 10' ultralight noodle. I just moved back from Maui after a 12 year absence and stocked up on fly tying supplies mostly via eBay and New Maui Fishing Supplies in Wailuku. For eyes I have been using various size bead chain from the hardware store cut into 2 bead sections, cheap and effective. Thanks for the Nervous Waters link, I shall have to check them out. See you on the Lake.
