Ontario fat...um...cats...

Postby Ken » Sun Jun 01, 2008 4:47 pm

Thanks to OP, Slug and Shovel for a great day. Lots of laughs, lots of snacks and enough action to keep us paying attention all the time :D

My first kitty of the day ended up being my PB channel cat (female?). The second one had a smaller belly (male?) but was not too far off in terms of length. The first cat came in fairly easy initially. All I needed to do was pump-and-wind. However, just as we were to see colour, the cat sounded deep. I thought it would not stop and cut me on bottom...but luckily, it stopped sounding and began a long bulldog fight. I don't know really how long it was fighting for...seems like an eternity anyways. We finally had it to the net after 3 attempts and some thrashing. The hook was embedded in the whisker...so I was lucky again to land this fish.

Second cat came in easier...and was hooked well in the lower lip

Great fight from both on medium rod and 15lb test. Would have used 8lb test but the line was not very trustworthy today (tied 4 knots...tested them all and popped on first pull...time for new line  )

I guess the first one to be about 10lbs with the big belly. The second one is probably around the 8-9lb range.

Before today, I've only caught one channel cat...and it was only 10"

Big belly...maybe egg laden? She went back strong.
