Trolling for Tukes.

Postby Stan Wright » Fri Aug 24, 2007 7:39 pm

Clay brought along his casting rod on our fly fishing trip today. He snapped on a diving lure as we slowed down by a big school of surface feeding fish. The water was boiling... shad and peacock bass jumping clean out of the water.

As I slowly motored through the feeding frenzy... Clay hooked up. I hooked up several more times. Nice peacock bass around 2 to 3 pounds.
I guess trolling crank baits for peacock bass can be very productive.

As soon as I caught my second fish on the fly rod, he put down the casting rod and picked up his fly rod.

It was wild.... Rain pouring down and the fish still biting. (If you ever go fishing with Clay... take rain gear. This is the third soaking for me, you'd think I'd learn by now)

Nice fish! I've had some pretty good luck with deep crankbaits when the tucs are schooling too. I like to have one tied on at all times. In the down time between busts I'll throw the crankbait and usually catch a few that I wouldn't have otherwise.
