The good, the bad and the Bob 7/21 HFFA fishing

Postby shanai » Sun Jul 21, 2013 8:28 pm

The July HFFA tournament was held today under mostly bluebird skies, water level at 74 feet and in the 81-85 degree range.

It was a good day of fishing as every angler was able to catch fish but also a bad day for catching a lot as the sunshine conditions made for a difficult day as four anglers were only able to catch a single fish. We pounded the shoreline, grass and woods with worms, jigs, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits and almost everything else we could find in our tackle bag but could get nothing. We finally got our first of several fish around 1:30 pm in the middle of the lake throwing lures towards periodic busts.

In all there were 15 bass weighed with a couple of nice sized fish going 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 pounds and then there's "bob". When anglers give a fish a name, you know that it's a special fish.

Robert stated that he was fishing a worm and threw it against a log where he let it rest on the log momentarily before he slowly flicked the worm off the log and as it fell, it was engulfed by "bob".

An epic battle ensued as "bob" took line and all Robert could do was to hold on as it swam under and between the logs. After a few minutes that felt like eternity, Robert was finally able to get "bob" to the boat only to have "bob" scream line off again as it approached the boat. Robert again had to hold on for dear life but was finally able to get a net under him. Robert didn't tell us how he felt but his heart must have been racing, as he shared that he first thought he had a big Tuc on his line.

For all we know, "bob" might be a girl but after the weigh-in, "bob" was released back into the lake to fight another day.

Robert with "bob" 7.45 pounds !!!

Checkout this bucket mouth !!! He took up the whole livewell and his mouth was huge !!!

I guess that's why fishermen go fishing, cause you never know when you might meet "bob"

That's a really nice fish anywhere! I would almost cetainly estimate BOB was a female. Man, if that fish was caught in december I'd bet she would have gone 8.5lbs! too bad Bob didnt make it to the hatchery! Those would be some nice genes to have swimming in wilson!
