Morning WT started out at 70 degrees, climbing to about 72 in the afternoon. Water level was at 71 Ft. Fifteen anglers in nine boats took part in the tournament. A total of 27 bass were weighed with only five anglers catching their 3 fish limits. There was one tagged fish ( #4243 ) approximately 13" caught near the main basin. Our boat managed just three bass between two anglers, all caught on creature baits.
If you were able to get on an early morning pattern, the bite was better, as the bite really sloooowed down in the afternoon. A couple of anglers were able to catch a single fish right at the end of the day before weigh-in to avoid a zero fish day.
The real excitement happened on the way home from the lake as one of our anglers had a ( broken minnow type day ) tire on his trailer burst open with smoke trailing while driving on the H1 freeway going eastbound. He was able to pull over to the left shoulder of the road near the H1/H2 merge. Fortunately, there was road construction going on so the freeway traffic was traveling at a slower speed - but still scary none the less.
Other HFFA members traveling in the same direction were able to pull over to assist with changing the trailer tire with a spare and everything was good to go, and everyone made it home safely. This is good reminder to all to make sure that your trailer is in good working condition, that you have a spare and it helps to have good friends that stop to help you out. BTW, while we were out on that freeway changing that tire, I found .11 cents on the ground. ( woo hoo ! )
