We didn't get into any fish larger than about 6 inches, but we had fun. Right off, Haley wanted to drive the boat. Not a bad idea to teach the kids how to drive, what if there was an accident and she was "suddenly in command" of the boat?

We started out looking for schooling fish, but just could't find them... Working the shoreline only produced 2 fish... this was the larger of the 2.

Remember when your fishing with kids... it's their day, so what ever they want to do... it's best to just go along.

By normal standards, the fishing was S-L-O-W. Fortunately kids don't care how big the fish are as long as there is action. Haley had no problem grabbing the line and hauling in the fish. I was a little concerned because a Tenkara, Ayu rod, is 13 feet long and I had about 6 feet of leader on the 13 foot fly line.

Nice little peacock bass... about 6 inches... This was probably the largest of the day.

Now watch Grand Pa Stan hold the fish close to the camera and make it look much bigger.

Haley quickly adapted to casting the tenkara rod... even with the wind we had. She still has some work to do on giving the fly some lifelike action in still water. Luckily the little peacock bass were plentiful and very aggressive so she got lots of practice.

I think the only thing kids like more than fishing... is getting out in the mud and fishing... you should see the carpet in the boat.
