Big Catch

Postby Stan Wright » Fri Mar 02, 2012 8:20 am

:D

First, you have to understand there is a BIG difference between a Big Fish, and A Big Catch...

A Big Catch in this case means a Big Bunch or fish... not size big.
(or as my old granpaw use use to say "a big mess a fish")

Anyway, the water was cold and the water level looked like it came
up a few feet. The wind was strong.... I went after red devils,
but they were not in their usual places. The few I did spot ignored my flys.

I kept moving and casting and finally found some peacock bass.
As you can see by the pictures, they were on the small side,
but by the way they fought, they thought they weighed 5 pounds.

Cast after cast they charged out of the safety of the flooded grass
to smash into the fly. On the super light Tenkara "AYU" rod it was
good fun. I quit counting after 12 fish. I suppose the key was to
just keep moving and casting (running and gunning) till you find
the fish or till they turn on and start feeding.
But when it happens, it's well worth the effort.

Catching a small fish is beter than catching no fish. Catching numerous small fish is even better! 8)
Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. ~ Henry David Thoreau

The "fly" is the famous 50 Cent Fly
It's like a Crazy Charlie, bonefish fly, tied on a #10 AH hook.
Nothing but a bead eye, orange thread, and gold Flash-a-boo.
"So cheep you couldn't sell it for 50 cents".

Thank you sir, #10 it is. I happen to have all the ingredients on hand for the "Fitty Sense" fly. :D
Still haven't made the time to Tenkara at the lake.
