South Bridge, Lake Wilson

You know that little triangle of land by H-2s, EXIT #8,...... just before the bridge going into Wahiawa?

On Tuesday there was a large work crew, heavy equipment, and a bunch of Sheriff Officers cleaning out the area just before the bridge. One lane was closed.

From what I could see from the water, it will take weeks and many truck loads to remove all the trash. Now that the "shacks" are torn down you can really see what a trash dump the Urban Outdoorsmen have created.

I saw one pile of filled garbage bags the size of an SUV... and that hadn't made a dent in the garbage pile it was standing next to.

I wonder if that place can ever be cleaned up

Workers I spoke with were not even aware of the "homeless camp" over by the North Wahiawa bridge.

Its great they finally kicked them out! It took way to long. To bad they only did it so they can do bridge work for next week. My problem is living in Wahiawa is where will they migrate to now? Hopefully not my house.........

at least a few tents and blue tarps still there this morning and a saw at least 2 or 3 people milling about, mounds of garbage! least someone had the sense to put a orange water boom out around the whole place to contain the garbage!

I don't want to sound negative, but I've seen it over and over throughout my career. Its just a cycle. Homeless build up, clean-up/kick-out occurs, homeless come back. Cycle starts over and over, etc., etc. Unless you give options to the homeless, the same ole $h!t happens. Most homeless (opps, I have to say "residentially challenged" now (serious) don't want to follow shelter rules or even be there. The other option is strict law enforcement, but honestly, law enforcement is just too inconsistent to be an effective option. Other than an agent orange air strike,...

I thought they were also evicting the residentially challenged by the north bridge to Whitmore. We drive by several times each day and the other day I saw some garbage bags and trash up by the road, for the first time in well forever. But no such luck, they are still down there on both sides of the bridge. At least I never paddle that far, but the one they did clean was a major eyesore each time I paddled by. I gave it extra room, the lake water is bad enough, but close to that shore, ugh...
