I have HUGE 'Awa cruising shallow flats near my home, great to see them tailing in the classic 'O'io form but they can be frustrating even refusing white bread but I have heard they can be caught on a fly. Anyone here ever catch a 'Awa of a fly? I read they will bite limu, and bread imitations but not any invertebrate imitations they being herbivores.

Check out the most recent Hawaii Fishing News, Stan's friend Louie the Fish is shown catching one on a chartreuse wooly buggerish fly.

Again research online showed that 'Awa will hit a bread fly or a limu fly. I know the 'Awa in my area haven't learned to eat bread they avoid it so I decided to try tying a limu fly. Green is supposedly the color of choice for 'Awa but I had 2 shades of green in 2 different materials so I decided to tie with both. The dark green is marabou, and the light green wool. Now all I need to do is unpack my 9 wt and practice casting before I attack the monster 'Awa grounds.
