Out of State Visiting for some Awesome Fishing

Postby rawrfishing » Thu Aug 18, 2016 7:52 am

Hi All,

I am from New Jersey. I run a few social media accounts such as YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. I will be coming to Oahu in September and it was always a dream for me to fish in Lake Wahiawa!

I was hoping folks can point me into the right direction with the water clarity and color so that I can prepare my fishing tackle.

I plan on renting a kayak and launching at the park and capture my fishing adventure there. I am also up for meeting up with other anglers if they want to fish together at the lake or elsewhere. I will have 4 days to fish and I want to cover both fresh and saltwater as much as I can, but I am certainly dedicating one day for this lake!

Hope to meet some new friends and make some good memories. Until then, tight lines everyone!

In general, September is one of the best months for peacockbass. The weather is pretty stable, you should see some good action. You did not specify what you will targeting.

Thanks bassinassassin
I am actually doing both freshwater and saltwater. I'll do one day on Lake wilson, i have experience fishing for bass (largemouth and smallmouth) as well as peacock bass, so going for them is going to be fun. The striped snakehead is also on my list. Other than that, any other species in there like oscars would be a plus. I am a multispecies angler and I will catch anything for a photo/video ;)

For saltwater, all fish are game! I also plan on doing some deep sea fishing on the charter. Mahi Mahi is top of the list when out there, as well as some Giant Trevally. Tuna, marlin and big game fish are a plus too..

inshore fishing, i may take a kayak out for some fish like baracuda, bonefish or any thing that takes shrimp?

i'll be available to fish from 9/19 to 9/23, so plenty of fishing :) Would be happy to fish with people and chip in for gas, charter, bait etc.

Here's a photo on my Instagram catching some nice Peacock bass including a 7lb one from Florida earlier this year: https://www.instagram.com/p/BEPMVLUg_A-/

best!

It has been raining a lot this summer. Water is close to max height. Water is relatively clear for lake Wilson, which means it is green or stained. The usual bright stuff for peacockbass. What ever you use for lm bass will work here. What kind of lures do use in florida?

Thanks for the details

I use rapalas xraps and plain o' jig head and small swimbaits to imitate baitfish. I'll certainly give it a shot.

If any of you guys are fishing next week 9/19-9/23 and got a boat, I'd love to join you guys. Of course, i'll treat lunch or split cost of gas/bait or what not ^^. (Prefer lunch if you guys know what is good around the local area, love food)
