lake wilson setup

new to the freshwater scene and was wondering if i can just hook a baby tilapia on a floater and throw it out on my boat? and what line size is needed for the type of fish in the lake..main line and leader,,thanks

I think you would be better off freelining the tilapia instead of using a floater. There really is no need for a leader. I think 6 to 8 lb. line on a Med. or ML power rod would be a good choice. There's other much more advanced anglers here who may chime in to help. Good luck.

If you use artificals on PBs then it is like catching papio and kaku. You just have to adapt a little. Bait fishing is the way to go if you are just a beginner. I agree about free lining, but around cover you might want to use a floater. Focus near the shoreline like Stan has said before.

Those little baits love to hide in and around any cover they can find.
Especially when the big boys are around. Tangling your line with it.
Some guys use those "feeder' fish from the pet store. I use what ever I can catch LOL
