I bought the 13 foot, Motsugo 3908 model (5:5) from them.
It's a nice little rod.
All my other rods are from TenkaraUSA... they cost more, but if you put them side by side you can easily see the difference in quality. ( metal vs plastic, finish, components, etc.) Still, they are fun rods and can catch fish. LOL

Thanks Stan. I was thinking about the 10-foot Motsugo for a while...but didn't know if it was too soft for what I need. For micro fishing, too bendy a rod makes it difficult to hold a bait still to present it to a tiny fish.

Hopefully the rod does not have too much backbone. There are some cool cichlids I want to catch next time in the canal close to you.

I had a question about the tenkara rods. How big a fish could I catch with it without it breaking or something like that. I'm new to fishing at lake wilson and I see a lot of pictures and posts about tenkara rods.

It's recommended you use leader no stronger than 5# test. That way, when you "accidentally" hook that big fish... the lead breaks, not the rod.

I've had that happen several times... it works just as advertised.
One or 2 pound fish are no problem.

But to catch that "big one" what type of rig is best at this lake? I notice there's a lot of top water hits. Would a fly rod rig be perfect? Or some thing like a drop shot rig? Sorry if I'm off track from the topic.

I have an Amago, 13' 6" rod (6:4) from Tenkara USA. and
the Ayu, 13'6" rod. The (6:6) rod is softer and more limber than the (6:4) rod.

I use a 13 foot braided fly line. It tapers down to about 8# test and I loop it to a foot long piece of 8# test mono. Then loop a 4 to 6 foot piece of flora carbon leader line (4# test)... I want the leader to break before the rod) Then just tie on your favorite fly.

Sometimes I use a "flat" fly line. ( 17# test ) flora carbon.

For a fly, I like the "Little gold 50 cent fly". It's a kind of Crazy Charlie tied with gold flash-a-boo. But any fly the fish like will do.
