BogaGrip for Trout?
I've never seen anyone using a BogaGrip to handle a trout or salmon.

Some people just don't like to hold a fish.


Some Fish have sharp teeth...

The BogaGrip seems perfect. You don't have to touch the fish...
which I understand is good because it doesn't rub off the protective slime.
It's easy to control the fish while removing the hook.
I've seen anglers hooked by lures while trying to "Lip" a bass.
You don't drop the slippery fish when it squirms out of your grip.
It's easy to take a picture and release the fish.


This is how I was taught to "grab" the trout to take a picture.




It seems that using a BogGrip would be a better way to handle a trout.
What do you guys think? Some opinions please.

I think that if you are fishing C&R, the less contact with the fish the better. In addition to the stress that a fish goes through until it's landed, taking a fish out of the water for a period of time and holding a fish can remove slime and/or scales. When the fish is finally released, although it may seem to swim off okay, there is the possibility of infection that sets in and the fish may end up dying later.

While I don't have any supporting scientific data or studies, my personal experience with trout fishing is that the trout does not seem to be a hardy fish and are more susceptible to stress. When we hooked into a trout or a char, that we were not going to keep, we'd use a long-nose plier to grab the treble hook on the lure and then shake the fish off the lure without touching the fish and releasing as soon as possible. ( a good reason for pinched down barbs on hooks - easier release ). I would think that using a bogagrip for trout might be a better way to handle the fish.

Trout has fairly fragile mouths. The Boga Grip's jaws would easily puncture the trout's mouth. I've had a couple of pike and bowfin mouths puncture through by similar grip...so not the best idea to use that on the trout.

I've try to grip a big salmon...but it's not really that useful.
