Here is the Question that Anthony ask... Hey all in a couple
of days I'm headed up to Alaska for the first time. The trip is
focused mainly on salmon - but the river has resident rainbows,
cutts, dolly varden and brook trout. Therefore I'm taking the
Tenkara rods along, they travel so easily after all.
Anybody tenkara Alaska before? Maybe this will be the first?
Not that it matters, but I'm excited to add another state to the
tenkara list if so.
Hopefully lots of pics tenkara fish from Alaska will get posted
next week when I'm back in town.

If your not familiar with Tenkara rods, It's a form of Japanese fly fishing using a 12 or 13 foot telescoping rod, fly line and fly. No reel. It's designed for fishing small mountain streams for small trout in the mountains of Japan. And is it ever a fun rod to use on our American fish.

This is a look at our guides fly box on a fly out trip to a mountain lake & stream for Cutthroat trout.
The river was running high and the fish we caught were under a pound.
Perfect if I had my Tenkara along. This is my brother... in 7 casts, he caught 7 fish.
This is the size of most of the fish we caught that day.
This is one thing you don't want to hook with your Tenkara
rod.
Another is a salmon... but believe me, you will hook a few...
big salmon that is.
Many of the Alaska rivers we fished were only a few inches deep,
wide open with lots of room to cast, and loaded with big salmon...
There were hundreds of small (under 2 pound) Dollies, Cutthroat,
and Rainbow trout feeding on the salmon eggs.
All you need is an assortment of salmon egg flys. Can you
imagine how much more fun we could have had if we'd been
fishing with Tenkara rods?
