I was thinking of buying a depth and fish finder. does anyone know of a decent one to buy and where from? I wanted to buy it on island. Maybe West Marine? Budget is about $400. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,
Kellan

My boat had one on it when I bought it. When it went out, I just bought another of the same model. Its a Lowrance XD50. I don't really rely on a fish finder, more of an entertainment only item.

I think I paid $79 or $89 for my Eagle at West Marine on Sand Island Rd.
That was a few years ago... they have several brands for under $100.
About the only thing I use it for is the water temperature and to spot schools of shad. (looks like black clouds)

i use mine religiously, it takes awhile to figure out what how to read the things but once you get an idea it really helps establish patterns. it would be nice to get a imaging one but the 2 i have on the boat are midrange hummingbird ones that do alright.
