Tenkara Rod Barracuda Flys
OK, check this out... I fish the Ala Wai Canal
behind Waikiki for Barracuda.
I've always used a light fly rod or 4# test spinning tackle...
I got to thinking that these 1 to 2 pound cuda would be
perfect for a Tenkara rod.
The flys I've been using are pretty big and have
a 4 to 6 inch wire leader. A little large and heavy
for Tenkara rod? Then I got to thinking... what if
I tied a tarpon type fly on a light bluegill hook?
Hopefully the "fly" is far enough back on the hook
shank to defeat those razor sharp teeth. If not,
it isn't that expensive a fly to loose. I'm only
using 5# test leader so I don't think I'll bend the
hook out straight.
What do you guys think? Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm just waiting for a high tide during the
middle of the day to do a little "field testing".
