If your headed to Hokkaido, Japan this winter for the Snow Festival...
why not bring your Tenkara rod. The Northern island is noted for it's fishing.

Once you've taken in the all the snow festival displays...

The kids are the ones having most of the fun.

This is about all the fishing I was able to do.
Total cost for tent, rods, and bait was about $15 a day.

Image

I watched them catch these little smelt while the rest of the
tour group was riding snowmobiles around the frozen lake.

Image

We moved accross the street to have lunch.

Image

Hay... these french fries... have eyes.

Image

When in Rome... I mean... Japan.

Image

I did see some fish... The wood carvings were amazing.

Image

Does anyone know the name of these trout?

Image

Image

I wish I had bought this one.

Image

This looks like a good spot to fish.
(now you know why I didn't do much fishing)

Image

Winter is "Seafood" season in Hokkaido.

I didn't catch any fish, but I sure enjoyed eating them.

Image

So if your like me and never saw snow while you were growing up...
Well, I sure got my moneys worth. :D

Looks like not much fishing is going on if we have to resort to posting vacation pictures this week.
Chris is going on Friday morning. I'm geting cabin fever so I'll get out soon. Wonder what the high water is going to do to the fishing action?
It usually slows things down a little. But then it's been a slow rise over a week or so.

When I drove by the lake today the water was starting to get up in the grass...I like that but I've never really done great after a ton of rain at wilson...the water gets soooo muddy. Seems like larger white baits work better. Hopefully when it starts to clear the water will stay up.

Nothing better than Japan food. I think they have the best food in the world by far. Makes me want to make a trip. I have never been to Hokkaido but I have always wanted to go.
