I'm spoiling my overseas report a little...but I thought this would be a great game to play. Plus, I have over 1400 pictures to sort through before I can even write the report...so it may take me a week to "summarize" the 12 days in Europe

Um...I do not have a prize package planned...but bragging right is probably worth more than what prize package I can put together

There are 16 species of European fish to identify. As a hint, the first 12 species were caught in the Mediterranean and the last 4 species were caught in France in the Brittany region. You MUST identify ALL species to win. I will accept common names on FishBase or I will accept the genus and species (I think a couple of species actually does not have a common name listed in FishBase).

Let's play!

:D Like the the local style ID :D

Here's how I would see the local equivalent species.

1. Hinalea (agreed)
2. Akule
3. Roi
4. Panunuhu (agreed)
5. Upapalu (agreed)
6. Awela (It's actually called the Christmas Wrasse as well :D)
7. Weke
8. Papio
9. Not sure...nothing really even come close...
10. Roi
11. 'Aha'aha
12. Damselfish (agreed...it's common name is actually just Demselfish)
13. Sea Bass (Yep, European Seabass to be exact)
14. 'O'opu
15. Another kind of hinalea
16. Perch (Actually European Perch...related species)

Read my travel logs...here or on AH :winks:

2. to me looks more like a baby Kalekale or Onaga
3. I can tell is a grouper of some type but head too small to be Roi or Hapu'u
6. doesn't look like a Awela to me more like a Malamalama (Cloris ballieui) in shape though color wrong for both.
8. to me looks more like a baby Kahala with elongated body and no tail scutes.
9. reminds me of an eastcoast Porgy or Pinfish
10. another weird Grouper nothing like found here
15. some kind of Wrasse (Hinalea)

Of course none of these are found here in Hawai'i but we do have some reasonable fact similes.
Cool to see what's available on other parts of the world.
Those Weke (#7) don't the Europeans call them Red Mullets?
