Wai'aha'aha?

Went to check the water level at the ramp today and it looked pretty depressing with cove to left of ramp bone dry and bottom of ramp walkway exposed. What I noticed where how numerous and large the wai'aha'aha aka freshwater needlefish were. There were several dozen cruising along the exposed cliffs to the right of the ramp in little packs looking for baitfish. They looked to be from 12 to 18 inches in length. I was thinking they might be fun on 2 lb. super ultralight tackle or a 3 wt. fly rod. Anyone ever target these just for fun? I would think they would readily take a small fly.
