One of the fun thing about tying your own flys.... you can play around with what you have and invent new things. Like my Little Gold Fly. (The 50 Cent Fly)
It's so easy to make. All you need is some Flash-A-Bou. Of all the colors, I use gold and silver the most.
Some #10, AH hooks. They are cheep and I already had a bunch from the live bait fishing.
Some Bead Chain Eyes. Like the chain from cheep key rings, dog tags, or hanging from the light fixture in the closet. You cut them into little barbell segments.
I tie it all together with orange thread and slap on a coat of clear fingernail polish. I just like orange, and the "Hard as Nails" clear is only 99 cents at Long's. I'm old enough now that I don't get embarrassed buying fingernail polish anymore.
Sean over at Nervous Water has all the makings.... and a lot more colors to choose from. He'll even show you how to tye it all together.

The greatest thing about my Little Gold Fly is... all kinds of fish love it.
Bluegill love it...
Red Devils love it...
Those purple devil things love it too...
Largemouth bass love it...
Little tiny peacock bass love it...
Best of all, BIG peacock bass love them...
Because it works so well, I suggested to Clay and Sean they stock the Little Gold Fly.....
Clay looked it over and said, "The fish may love it, but it's so simple and cheep looking, I probably couldn't sell it for 50 cents".
So, the new name. "The 50 Cent Fly"
(Hay, as long as the fish like it)
P.S. Clay now has a "professionally tied" gold fly....
that works.... well, almost as well as mine.
