Thanks to Modest Man and company, I finally fished at Wilson near the boat ramp area. Using the donated bait I caught two tucs between 2-3lbs. Both were caught before 10:30am and right up against the shoreline.
After the sun came out in full force, the tucs kept cruising the shoreline and teasing me for another 2hrs. They would charge my bait and then back-off two inches away. Pretty frustrating but cool to see.
Just glad to have tried my luck at the lake and get a couple biters...fun stuff. Thank you Modest Man for the generous offer, you made my day/week/month.

I also was at the boat ramp today with my son, I caught 1 Largemouth about 2 lbs and 1 Tuc that was about 1.5 lbs. Saw a bunch cruising and busting the shoreline but my live bait situation was bleak.

I ended up taking kayaks up and dropping in behind Kemoo farms. Only got one tuc, and it was small. Landed 5-6 red devils (all different colors, white and orange, red, orange, red and black...), and one 8lb or so channel cat. That was fun on 6lb test. Saw a breeding pair of snakeheads (pungee?) but they didn't touch the bait.

I did not know pongee spawn this time of the year. I usually see them spawning during the spring.

There were two of them and they were guarding a territiory. I'm assuming spawning, but I didn't see any fry or anything.

Thanks to the advice from the board I got a couple. Live bait was key and Modest Man hooked me up. I cant wait to try it again....I would love to spend some more time up there early in the morning with a bucket full of 2-3 inch baits and some smaller hooks.
Anyone have much success with lures from shore in that area?

Years ago, I used to throw 1/16oz. Roadrunner jigs in white or yellow and retrieve them pretty much as fast as I could with my 4:1 ratio old school reel using a jerking action and would catch some right off of the ramp. I don't know if that would still work. Hmm... maybe I'll give it a try for old times sake, or you could try it and report your results here.
You need to use 4 lb. line to get decent distance on the cast.

I agree with skunked, roadrunners do work there. I would also use lead and fly or jerk baits. Boat ramp does not have much cover so you will be concentrating on structure techinques ( until the grass grows back). Focus on the shoreline. Good luck and good fishing.

Hey, nice job finding that pic. Yes, that is the Blakemore Roadrunner. Works well on papio and barracuda too. I used to buy mine at Wahiawa Sporting Goods. Don't know if they still sell them though.
