Postby GaBoy » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:22 am

Looking for recommended charter boats to plan a fishing trip with the guys I work with. Suggestions welcome. Mahalo in advance!

This is who we went fishing with last time... the Live Bait out of Waianae.

I have fished on the Kuuloa Kai at least three times now. Out of Haleiwa. They have a website you can visit. http://www.kuuloakai.com/

I was most impressed as they will just about do everything to catch fish - whatever the season calls for. I've experienced early morning jigging for Opelu for live bait. trolling for big pelagics, dragging live aku for ono and smaller lures for Otado, live baiting (and palu) for Mahi. Having been on other charter boats out of Kewalo and Waianae, no one comes even close.

Just be prepared for real open ocean fishing. Last time we ended up 10 miles off of Kaneohe catching huge aku (Otado) - 20#+. The captain and crew have been living and fishing in Hawaii for over 40 years. We always negotiate to take home fish too. The captain is very generous and I've come home with cooler full of fish.
