This is what i use for bass: i take a 8'0" medium or medium light 2-pc. steelhead, long-handled rod and cut off 2'6" feet off the second half to turn it into a 5'6" rod. I only buy 2nd-hand rods, or rods that have broken ends. Sometimes I use pcs. from two different rods, if the 2nd half fits the ferrule of the 1st half. I cement on a new rod tip guide (good for up to 20lb. line).
I use a small spincast reel (unreal excellent reel to use for bass fishing) with plain, cheap, green color 10lb. mono. line. Spincast reels are best when they are compact so you can "palm" it. I buy ones that are left-hand convertible and put the handle on the left side - i buy two every year - they only cost about 15 bucks (sometimes only ten) - have a box full of these reels. They cast like a spinning reel (no resistance) but cranks like a baitcaster. You can "pitch" with this set up really well (rubber worm). You can also use this set up to cast for papio.
For bass i use: topwater buzzbait. Rubber frog. Zara spook. Weedless spoon (topwater). I also like: rubber worm and felmlee eel. These are the only bass lures i use. As you can see, i either work the topwater or i work the bottom with a rubber worm. For some reason, i haven't caught many bass with other kinds of lures that do other things.

Here i am again! A more studied look at a map of the Wahiawa freshwater system the more it becomes obvious that a second reservoir should be made on Oahu. Studying a map of Oahu shows that probably the best place to do it would be in the deep gorge that abuts the Waianae range mauka from Waialua. That is, just inland along the mountain above Waialua. Freshwater could fill that deep gouge in the island there - it appears it would be more than twice the acreage of water that is at Wahiawa. Another candidate would be the deep interior crater-like depression that is Waipio Valley, just between Mililani and Wahiawa. There is also a possibility of impounding water at Haleiwa. If it were to be done on a massive scale, a tanker (giant ship) bringing water from the Amazon river (water bought from Brazil) would assist in creating the reservoir quickly (industrial pumping). What a fascinating concept - to impound another two or three "Wahiawa lakes" on Oahu; it would create the most incredible public recreational offering (recreational freshwater fishery) ever devised, in the history of the island. It would also enhance tourism - Hawaii is the only other place in the U.S. other than Florida (where the fish cling to survival due to potential "cold snaps" there) where you can catch a peacock bass without leaving the country (so to speak). Write letters Gov. Neil - he's a very smart man; a thoughtful, inventive guy....give it a try.
