new fishermen looking for expert advice

hi everyone,
I have been lurking for a month or so and decided to join. Never really fished before, but I recently came back from a trip to Florida where I tried it. Fell in love with it. Now, I am looking to become a decent fishermen. Friend gave me a nice reel and rod, and saltwater lures. Any tips on freshwater lures and techniques?
