Wahiawa park closure

Postby LCPointer » Mon Apr 06, 2009 7:42 pm

Did you guys see the news? Due to the budget shortfall, the Wahiawa park is one of the parks being considered for closure around mid summer. That means they plan to lock the gate so no access to the boat ramp. Anyone have some good ideas for action we can take to prevent it from happening? Maybe we should start contacting your councilman and legislature.

Where did you hear this? I'd like to verify the source before validating it. I just don't see it happening myself.

It was on the channel 7 news. I was pulling my boat out when they were filming the piece at the park.

I will still get my boat on the water. I will make my own access.

I wonder if this is cause for "serious" concern? IF the fresh water park was to close, I wonder if fishermen could be given a key for boat ramp purposes? I'll also develop a "plan B" for getting my boat in/out of the water.

I have a duplicate "key" like Stan so I'll just keep it in the truck.

Lrry93 - Are you going to share your secret access with me?

I called around to some people in the know and they figure nothing is going to happen any time soon.

Even if the"park" closes, arrangements will be made for fishing and use of the boat ramp.

As for the "Private Trust" that owns the lake giving it to the state....
The DLNR toured the lake and decided they didn't have the money to make the improvements to the dam to bring it up to code.

The Dept. of Ag. is checking into it... (irrigation)
But, with the economy the way it is, it's unlikely anything is going to
be done for a while.
