Report From The Lake - March 16, 2008

Postby tucmaster » Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:12 pm

Here's a late shoreline report from yesterday. The cove to the left of the boat ramp is almost dry and the saddle to "saddle island" across from the homeless camp is just about exposed. The lake looks to be about 4 feet below high water level. The water is the normal green.

A bucket full of live bait and about 2-1/2 hours to fish. With the low water conditions, located a bunch of cruising (non-spawning) tucs concentrated beneath one of the remaining areas of submerged grass. Didn't see any lunkers, but managed to hook and release 13 healthy and aggressive tucs ranging from 2 to 3-3/4 lb., a handful of rats under 1 lb., and one 13-inch, healthy-looking largemouth. Pretty sure that the hooked tucs were not active spawners - none were hump-heads, none were sitting on beds - they all came cruising by one spot along the shore.

With the spawning season underway, hope there are no sudden fluctuations in the water level, so that the tucs have a chance to nest undisturbed.

Good luck and good fishing. Tucmaster out!

I fished Sunday also. Caught 5 decent tucs 14-15" all of them nailed a 5 inch jerkbait. Around 6:30 PM they went crazy for about 1/2 hour. Didn't see any on beds yet and just a few schoolers.
