PFD's

After fishing the lake all my life, I figure it's time to man-up and finally invest in one of these things. PFD's were always too cumbersome, expensive, not readily available, or whatever other reason is out there. I was probably just too lazy (or broke) to get one. What PFD do you guys use/recommen...

dark colors do work for tucs although white, shiny silver, or shiny gold are the usual go-to colors. black and brown do hold their own. i like Roadrunners, Cordell Ratt'l Spot Minnows, and jerkbaits (ala pin's minnows). steady stop & go retrieve for these lures to make it look like the lure is b...

a lot of guys like to use 1/16 oz and 1/8 oz road runners on the lake w/ lighter line. if you want to buy some white marabou one, check out my earlier post.

I have a few Blakemore Road Runners for sale. 1/16 oz. white head/white marabou. $1.50 each. 2 order minimum. great if you're low on these lures and can't wait for shipping. I live near the boat ramp so let me know if you are interested and we can meet.

blast from the past

does anyone have some earlier pics or stories of fishing lake wilson? earlier meaning pre-catch & release regulations or even from the 70's, 80's or 90's. i'll try to get a picture up of my first & biggest largemouth from the lake. after that fish, i was the one that was "hooked" on fishing....

another place with a BIG field is behind Wahiawa Middle School. it is a much farther walk though. to get there, you go north on Kam Hwy, make a right on California Ave, drive up about a 1/4 mile or so, and make a right on Rose St. the middle school is at the end of the road. water temperature has be...

it's easier to give the ratt'l spot minnow the darting action that tucs go crazy over. we used to use the silver or gold ones with good success. i just ordered a decent sized lot of these lures so hopefully they are the size i want. the regular ratt'l spots should work but i don't think you would be...

the ratt'l spot minnow is like the rattle trap but smaller & more elongated. i use a slow steady retrieve while whipping with my tip down. this makes the lure dart back and forth. like when i use the roadrunner, tucs always hit the lure at the stop or pause between the hops or darts so the strik...

007, i guess it's different fishing the roadrunner from the bank and off a boat. when using it from the banks, i use a steady hopping (stop & go) retrieve along the bottom so i don't really need to worry about it coming in sideways or if the blade is not spinning. it has been a while since i've ...

for the lake i use a St. Croix PS50UL that i bought a while back at Kilani Rod & Tackle matched with a recently purchased Shimano Symetre 750FB (great reel). this is my primary setup from shore. i use 6# test J-Line for its thin diameter & castability. it does stretch quickly though. this po...
