Well, took out the smallest 6 ranging from 3"-5". Caught 2 largemouth, one about a pound and one about 3lbs. Also caught a larger 2-3lb tuc, all right by the boat launch. So, the larger baits do work.

Yes, that's it. Hemichroms elongatus, I believe (DUH, look at the photo!). Also known as 5 star general and 5 spot cichlid.

Live bait question

I've been told that the 5 spot cichilds are one of the tucs favorite live baits. Up till now I've been using livebearers and small (2") talipia that I catch with a dip net. Well, today I went out and caught about a dozen 5 spots, but they're pretty large. They range from 3" to about 6", with 4-5" be...

Thanks Stan, I know where those colored cement blocks are. Guess it's all Mapquest's fault then eh? I just put in Subway in Wahiawa and that's where it came up... :P

Thanks Stan. So I come from town and get of at the Wahiawa exit. I have no idea where Subway is, or this launch area is. Here's a lovely map I made, as you can tell it's very high tech. Do I have it correct? The Star is Subway, according to Mapquest. http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2514/yepqs5.jpg

Is there any way to access Morgans point from land? I don't have access to a boat and have been putzing around the launch area with not so hot results. I am finally signed up to get kayak certified so I can rent kayaks through UH...but that's not till the 23rd and I'll be out again Saturday. Mahalo,...

Heading out in the morning.

So if anyone sees two goofy looking guys, one about 6'6" trying to look cool and pretend to catch fish, holler.

We'll see how we do...

Dissapointing...

Back from my second trip to Wilson Res. Brought live bait this time and hoped for the best. The crayfish got bites, but I think they were by red devils and the cray's were to large. I hooked one fish of unknown species but it got tangled right away and broke my line. Lost a lot of hooks using live b...

Was getting ready to head out, and checked on the baitfish and they all jumped out over night. Wonderful. Reminder: use a cover. :x

The terrors are a cichlid, from South America. There is a breeding group established where I got the bait fish.

Heh, thanks. So there arent any places that sell worms eh? Back in Washington any tackle shop has a fridge of different sized earthworms. Went out this evening and did some bait fishing with a dip net. :D http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/787/1000706io9.jpg The two big ones (Green Terrors) are for an...

Where do you get earthworms? I've tried a couple "tackle" places in Honolulu to no avail. Pretty dissapointing really in the quality/quantity of freshwater gear...

To rig live bait, what size hooks should I be using? And do you guys reccomend a bobber, weights, or just the bait and hook?

I went out today for the first time, all around the boat launch. Saw lots of tucs surfacing, and some red devils in the brush, but couldn't get any thing to hit the rapala's I was using. Talked to people coming in on boats and seems it was a slow day, live bait was the way to go. I'm going out again...
