I'd keep a few to eat, but how clean is that water? I don't think I'd keep fish for food just because of all the crap that gets in that waterway.

Has anyone had water samples/fish tested?

Been busy (Fishing 11/21)

Went out last Tuesday, but haven't been aound a computer for a while. (Was backpacking on Maui till today.) Landed a scrawny largemouth between 1-1 1/2 lbs off the boat launch with live bait. No tag on the guy, but he didn't look good. Very sunken belly. http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r265/Haole...

Ditto. I want to try and make it up Sunday, and knowing how the water is would really help. ;)

Been checking every day for updates, and nothing yet!

I had a camera, just left it in the car because I didn't want it getting wet. The cat's aren't bad on light line, they don't really speed of or try to snap the line, it was much more of a solid steady pull, hence it towing me. :P

I landed a channel cat today that was well over 10lbs. It was actually towing the kayak I was in, pulled me about 40-50 ft. We measured it against the paddle, but I haven't measured the paddle yet. I was using a size 16 hook with a 4" talipia on it on 6lb test in about 2' of water...not what I was g...

There were two of them and they were guarding a territiory. I'm assuming spawning, but I didn't see any fry or anything.

Hey, anytime. Glad you caught stuff you're first try. 8) I ended up taking kayaks up and dropping in behind Kemoo farms. Only got one tuc, and it was small. Landed 5-6 red devils (all different colors, white and orange, red, orange, red and black...), and one 8lb or so channel cat. That was fun on 6...

As far as I know you only need a license to rent from UH. Something about liability. The license is good for a year. I had to go out kayaking for a couple hours with a group ($25 with UH ID, I think it's more for the average Joe) and take a test to "qualify". I know I've seen then for rent in Kailua...

Hey, no worries. I was carless until this semester and I know how much it sucks. I'm actually on campus at UH (Kahawai), so very close. I just catch my own bait on campus, so if I have enough don't worry about it. I've got some traps in the water right now. :P I'll have to get back to you a bit late...

The needlefish in the lake are called "needlenose gar" but the aren't a gar. I've been tossing around the idea of catching some and putting them in an aquarium. They have interesting topwater hunting behavior. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSummary.php?ID=10124&genusname=Xenentodon&s...

I'll be up there on a Malibu Two, but it isn't mine. I'll be renting it from UH ($25 for the weekend).

Where are you located? I'm heading up early (7-8am) Saturday and staying most of the day (till afternoon at least) and coming from town, with a couple extra seats.

I do be the shoreline noobie. :D

Not for long though, I'll be up there for almost all day Saturday with a kayak, adventuring around.

Congrats on the nice catch. I'd be happy with 10% of that.
