 Catch and release alive. When they get this big, living and feeding all their lives in Lake Ontario, the fish are pretty contaminated. It is only safe to eat a single 8oz serving once a month...so I don't keep these fish anymore. I do keep juveniles...5lbs of less...fish that are caught in the...

Yep, it's that time of the year! I had a nice hit around dusk but the hooks couldn't find something to set into. Another 30min later, Richard's friend hooked a nice one...gave a good fight...but the hook fell out. Then it was Richard's turn...2 fish on 6 casts...cookie cutter males. They are a littl...

Hey Stan, the searobin in Kaneohe are likely different species. I know there are flying gurnards in Hawaii...relative of the searobin (not close relative, but not too distant either...under the same order, but different suborder). I saw a pretty big one in Ala Wai on my last trip...but I had no bait...

New Jersey Inshore Fun 2014
I wasn't able to visit San Diego for some hot tuna and yellowtail action during this El Nino. This is as close as I can get to that action without paying for a charter to chase tuna on the Atlantic coast. Perhaps the El Nino also affected the fishing off New Jersey. Water has been warm and the Augus...

Zero dark burbot
Michael and I, along with my buddy Matt and his family, spent the weekend on a lake up north searching for the elusive Burbot (Lota lota). We were given some very good information, but it seems the timing was still a little off, or our location was a little off, or conditions was a little off. Micha...

Thanks guys! Florida is fun because it is just a mix bag of fishing. Fresh, brackish, salt...rivers, lakes, canals, bays, bridges, piers, flats...there is no shortage of it! Hope you have the time to read the blog posts :) tkki1230, do you keep a lifelist? Just wondering. If you are interested in sp...

Florida Road Trip 2013
I tried to be brief this time since there were 19 days to write about. Most of the pictures taken were of new species caught. I added 30 new species on this trip to bring the total number of new species added in 2013 up to 103 species. I would say I've probably easily caught 50+ species of fish on t...

What small live bait did you use to catch them in the past? I have had them chase after larger topwater, but of course it was difficult to hook them. Want to catch one next time. I didn't really pay any attention to them the last two times we fished at the lake, but I know there are lots of them aro...

It has the color of a Jaguar but the profile looks more like a Red Devil. I have never seen a Jaguar with a bump forehead before. I wonder if they could hybridize with Red Devils. The Jaguars I have seen have all had sloping foreheads like the one pictured below. The dorsal and anal fin profiles to...
