I agree with the majority of the regulars here. Keeping the lake steady at the 72-73 foot level would be ideal. Boaters can utilize all of the boat ramp, and the grass line will be in the water. A "normal level' of 65 feet is definitely too low - the banks of the mid and upper reaches of both forks ...

Stan - if the floodgate fix rumor that you heard is true, that would be great! I'm crossin' my fingers on that one . . . Yep, the lake's dropping a half-foot a day and like you said that doesn't leave much time to fish the grass line before it goes high and dry. It's raining today - hope that raises...

If Only They Could Maintain A High Water Level . . .

Hey guys. Tucmaster here. Been waiting for months for the lake's water level to rise up to the grass line. This morning, I took a quick spin up to the lake to verify the USGS gauge reading of 78.1 feet. At this height, the water level is in the grass line (good fishing), and the lake looks healthy. ...

Awwright Skunked!!! That's a big hump head! Congrats! And hey, there's absolutely no shame in being a live-baiter - right, Saltydog? :D Your scale is probably accurate. Remember, the figures in my length/weight table are just estimates - my 22-inch, 7 pounder was a bit stockier (deeper body). Your f...

I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, but how would tournament participants weigh in their catch? Don't the current fishing regulations for the Wahiawa Public Fishing Area require that any tuc or bass hooked and landed in the WPFA be released immediately? Isn't it illegal to keep a tuc or bass in...

Re: tuc master

How big is that tuc on the wall u got on your profile. Is that ur biggest Sorry fisher dude - To answer your second question, it's my second largest tuc, and it was caught in a North Shore irrigation pond. Here's a good fishing "tale". On a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon back in 2005, I was at the L...

How big is that tuc on the wall u got on your profile. Is that ur biggest fisher dude - That tuc on my avatar weighed 7 lbs. even and was a stocky 22" long. My guesstimate is that the tuc in your photo is somewhere between 7 and 8 lbs. - a hawg! Good Luck & Good Fishing. Tucmaster out!

Wow! That's a big boy, fisher dude! Congrats! If you don't have a scale, you can mark or put tape on your rod at 1 inch intervals starting at 18 inches and up to 24 inches. Based on my recordkeeping, you can generally guesstimate the weight of a healthy, non-scrawny tuc by its length: 18" - about 3 ...

Aloha Skunked. I was cruising the forum and came across your old post from Oct. 18, 2006. Believe me, I know what it's like to see literally a hundred tucs go cruising slowly by and not be able to do anything about it! I guess I really never gave it much thought that my reports from the lake (always...

I concur with Stan. Back in the day, a big, live puntat (chinese catfish, the same kind you see live at the local farmers markets and in Chinatown) free-lined off a point almost guaranteed you a good-sized bucketmouth. Nowdays, the bass population in the lake isn't what it used to be, so I haven't t...

The new Hawaii Goes Fishing show on OC-16

For those of us residing in Hawaii, they're showing a rerun today - Kaneohe Bay papio, flyfishing for oio at Hawaii Kai and Hickam AFB, etc. Good show, but again, seen it. Then my mind started to wander off subject - I wonder if host Cindy Paliracio's "guns" are real? She's definitely not shy about ...
